CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings took sole possession of second place behind University in the Pacific Coast League Tuesday.

Lauren Thaxter improved to 20-3 with a 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 sweep for CdM (8-3, 3-1 in league). Olivia Dajee swept at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, improving her record to 23-9 this season. Selby Anderson won two of three sets at No. 3 singles to improve to 9-3.

Kenzie Purcifull and Riley Gerdau swept at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, and improved to 17-6, while Sophia Chen and Siena Sharf won two of three at No. 2 doubles to improve to 10-4 as a doubles team this year.

Newport Harbor 12, Edison 6

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Kate Knight swept at No. 1 singles for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday.

Seniors Megan Bathen and Kaitlyn Cosenza swept at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Kelsey Christiansen and Lexi DeSantis swept at No. 2 doubles for Newport Harbor (10-4, 5-1 in league).

Freshman Baylee Bakkila won two of three at No. 3 singles, including an upset against Edison’s No. 1 player, 6-4.

IRVINE — Jake Wyatt scored three goals to help lead the Sea Kings to the Pacific Coast League win Tuesday.

Colby Watson, Reid Chase and Kyle Trush scored two goals each for CdM (6-3, 2-0 in league), which plays at Irvine on Thursday.

SANTA ANA — Abby Griffith had 16 kills for the Eagles in their 19-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-17 Orange Coast League win Tuesday.

Emma Griffith had 14 kills and Eliza Jason added eight kills for Estancia (7-7, 2-1 in league).

Newport Harbor def. Fountain Valley

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Hunter Jennings had 30 digs and three aces to help lead the Sailors to a 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-15 Sunset League win Tuesday.

Sierra Brown (12 kills, nine digs), Torey Thompson (50 assists, one ace), Gabby Shelly (eight kills), Leah Castillo (eight kills) and Mary Lyon (seven kills) also contributed to the win.

Newport Harbor (12-5, 2-0 in league) plays host to Huntington beach Thursday.

Newport Harbor 1, Marina 0

NEWPORT BEACH — Jordan Blanchfield scored the Sailors’ goal in the Sunset League game Tuesday.

Goalie Cailynn Smethurst had six saves for Newport Harbor (10-3-1, 2-1 in league), which plays at rival Huntington Beach Thursday at 3:15 p.m. The teams have met in the final of the past four Los Angeles Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions of which the Sailors have won each matchup.

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Academy League meet

LONG BEACH — Seniors Sophia Witte and Lili Mora, as well as sophomore Brittany Andressoo finished in the top eight to help Sage Hill School finish second among six teams at El Dorado Park on Tuesday.

Witte completed the three-mile course in 20 minutes, 41 seconds to finish fifth.

Mora was sixth (20:56) and Andressoo was eighth (21:10).

Claire Goul was 19th in 22:45 and Rebecca Fudge was 20th in 22:46 for the Lightning.

BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Academy League meet

LONG BEACH — Senior Dylan Thies finished sixth individually to help Sage Hill School finish third in the six-team contest Tuesday at El Dorado Park.

Thies completed the three-mile course in 16 minutes, 22 seconds.

Freshman Cameron Knollenberg (13th in 17:12) and senior Ryan Fishel (20th in 17:48) also stood out for the Lightning.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Northwood 51, Corona del Mar 51

COSTA MESA — Freshman Amy Matsuoka shot one-over-par 36 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings, but the visiting Timberwolves won the tiebreaker to claim the Pacific Coast League match at the Costa Mesa Country Club on Tuesday.

Karlie Moss (44), Katherine Webb (45), Ann Kim (48) and Hanna Hogan (48) also scored for the Sea Kings, who were without No. 2 player Emily Turner (stomach flu).

Northwood had the better score by its sixth player to win.

CdM is 3-6, 2-4 in league.
