High School Roundup: CdM's Matsuoka ties school record for best round in golf

NEWPORT BEACH — Freshman Amy Matsuoka fired an ever-par 35 on Tuesday, earning medalist honors and helping the Sea Kings tie a school record for best round at Newport Beach Country Club.

Karlie Moses shot a 39 for CdM (5-7, 4-5 in Pacific Coast League).

Emily Turner finished with a 41), followed by Hanna Hogan (42) and Ann Kim (46).


Newport Harbor 236, Huntington Beach 251

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Freshman Grace Ferrell earned medalist honors after shooting two-over-par 38 in the Sailors' Sunset League match at Seacliff Country Club on Tuesday.

Tara Hanna she had a 40 for Newport Harbor (5-10, 2-5 in league).

Hannah Perry (46), Bowie Viloria (56) and Christina Ferraro (56) each contribute to the Sailors.

Newport Harbor plays Marina on Thursday at Meadowlark Golf Club at 2:30 p.m.


Sage Hill 235, Fairmont Prep 297

IRVINE — Senior Angela Choi and freshman Michelle Chen both shot three-over-par 39 for the Lightning in the Academy League match at Strawberry Farms Golf Course Tuesday.

Choi and Chen had one birdie each.

Junior Cindy Qi had her second best round of the season, shooting 49 for Sage Hill (8-3, 4-1 in league).



Newport Harbor 17, Huntington Beach 1

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Kate Knight, Mckenna Johnson and Baylee Bakkila each swept in singles action for the Sailors in a Sunset League match on Tuesday.

Anna Burke and Kendall Cosenza swept in the No 3 doubles play for the Newport Harbor (13-4, 7-1 in league).

The Sailors play at Marina on Thursday at 3 p.m.


Costa Mesa 12, Godinez 6

COSTA MESA — Catherine Debbas swept at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League match Tuesday.

Rachel Russell and Mahina Won-Milho swept at No. 1 doubles for Costa Mesa (5-7, 4-4 in league).


Laguna Beach 16, Estancia 2

LAGUNA BEACH — Freshman Kinley Ohland won two of three at No. 1 singles for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League match Tuesday.

Estancia (6-8, 3-4 in league) plays host to Godinez Thursday.



Corona del Mar 15, Woodbridge 7

CORONA DEL MAR — Reid Chase scored four goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

Jake Wyatt and Kyle Trush scored two goals each, while goalie Patrick McKenzie had nine saves and two steals for CdM (11-4, 4-0 in league).



Sage Hill def. Whitney

NEWPORT COAST — Halland Mckenna had 19 kills and three aces to help lead the Lightning to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 Academy League win Tuesday.

Maggie Danner had 13 kills and 10 digs, while Claudia Noto had eight digs and two aces for Sage Hill (11-4, 3-1 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 3-A.



Fountain Valley 1, Newport Harbor 0

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors dropped to 10-3-3, 2-2-1 in league after the Sunset League loss Tuesday.
