Briefs: Two Lions honored

Vanguard University goalkeeper Lauren Terry has been named NAIA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week in addition to earning Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Vanguard senior mi+dfielder Charlotte Wisniewski was named GSAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Terry, a sophomore, helped the No. 10-ranked Lions (10-2, 6-0 in conference) earn a pair of road victories. She posted seven saves in a 2-1 win at Biola on Saturday.

On Oct. 9 at The Master’s, Terry had four saves to post her fourth shutout. Her goals-against average was 0.67 through Monday.

Wisniewski scored the game’s only goal in overtime against The Master’s, then-ranked No. 20.

She had one goal against Biola.

Zepfel recognized

Corona del Mar High product Ben Zepfel, a freshman at Harvard, was named Northern Division Rookie of the Week in men’s water polo.

Zepfel had four goals and a steal in a 23-9 loss to No. 12-ranked Brown to earn recognition, his second Rookie of the Week honor.
