High School Roundup: Matsuoka advances


Pacific Coast League finals

BONSALL — Corona del Mar freshman Amy Matsuoka finished with a six-over-par 78 on Wednesday, giving her a two-day total of 154 to qualify out of the Pacific Coast League finals to the CIF Southern Section Southern Individual Regional next week.

Matsuoka, the Pacific Coast League MVP, was the lone CdM golfer at San Luis Rey Downs Golf Resort and Country Club advancing to the Southern Individual Regional at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach on Oct. 24.

CdM's Emily Turner and Karlie Moses each missed the cut after totaling 180 and 186, respectively.


Sunset League finals

LAKEWOOD — Newport Harbor High freshman Grace Ferrell shot even-par 37 on the front nine at Lakewood Golf Course and is tied for second after Wednesday's preliminary round.

Ferrell trails Lilia Vu of Fountain Valley. The remaining Sunset League golfers play 18 holes Thursday at Mile Square Golf Course, vying to be among the top seven who advance to the CIF Soutern Section Southern Division Individual Regional Oct. 24 at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach.

Susnet League finals

LONG BEACH — Newport Harbor High's Kate Knight and two Sailors doubles teams advanced to Thursday's semifinals after winning twice on Wednesday at El Dorado Park.

Knight, the No. 3 seed, will play against the No. 2 seed from Los Alamitos in the semifinals.

In doubles, Newport Harbor's Kelsey Christiansen and Lexy DiSantis, the No. 5-seeded team, will take on the top-seeded team of Los Alamitos in the semifinals.

The Sailors' Megan Bathen and Kaitlyn Cosenza, the No. 2-seeded team, will play against the No. 4-seeded team of Los Al in the other semifinal.



Saddleback 11, Estancia 9

COSTA MESA — Hayden Swift scored three goals for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday.

Sean Fisher, Jacob Sperling and Eli Sperling scored two goals each for Estancia.
