High School Roundup: Obong leads CMHS to win over Newport Harbor


Costa Mesa 36, Newport Harbor 19

CORONA DEL MAR — Danielle Obong scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Mustangs in a consolation game at the CdM Tip-Off Classic Tuesday.

Elizabeth Ford finished with 16 rebounds and eight points for Costa Mesa (1-1).

Bella Raimondi scored six points to lead the Sailors (0-2).

Cierra Haas had five points and McKenna Izzi added four points for Newport Harbor, which plays in a consolation game Thursday at 3 p.m. at CdM.


Mission Viejo 67, Estancia 58

CORONA DEL MAR — Celia Duran had 24 points and five assists to lead the Eagles in their season opener at the CdM Tip-Off Classic Tuesday.

Maya Van Den Heever had 12 points and five steals and her freshman twin sister Neffertiti Van Den Heever had eight points for the Estancia, which plays against Garden Grove Wednesday at 4 p.m.



Estancia 23, Bolsa Grande 0

COSTA MESA — Ilene Umansky scored nine goals for the Eagles, who earned their first win of the season in the nonleague game Tuesday at Estancia High.

Danielle Ridge added seven goals for Estancia (1-2), and Alexis Paul made three saves.



Sage Hill 1, Ocean View 0

NEWPORT COAST – Freshman Tiffany Taylor scored for the Lightning in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Junior Erika Lynn-Green provided the assist. Senior captains Campbell Moore, Sophia Witte and Francesca D'Agostino along with goalie Rachel Cramer helped Sage Hill (2-0) produce it second shutout this season.


Estancia 0, Irvine 0

IRVINE — Goalkeeper Gianna Guyot had 12 saves for the Eagles in their season opener Tuesday.

Both teams had players out due to club soccer commitments, Estancia Coach Jessica Perry said.

The Eagles play at Huntington Beach Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.



Yorba Linda 40, Costa Mesa 32

SANTA ANA — Junior Kyle Hefner had 10 points to lead the Mustangs in the Godinez Tournament game Tuesday at Godinez High.

Junior Sean Comer added nine points and junior Oronde Crenshaw led the Mustangs wtih five rebounds.

Costa Mesa (0-2) plays Santa Ana in a bronze bracket game on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. at La Quinta High.

Yorba Linda is 1-0.



Corona del Mar 86, Los Alamitos 84

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sea Kings improved to 5-1 after taking down the Griffins, who had not lost in three years, Tuesday at 54th Street.

Foster Hoose, Jason Crane, Julia Cordes, Shane MacGrilfrey and Kevin Kassell helped Corona del Mar move into a tie for first place in league.



San Clemente 3, Corona del Mar 1

SAN CLEMENTE — Senior Jack Nowak recorded the Sea Kings' lone goal in a season opener on Tuesday.

Conor Roche had an assist.
