Corona del Mar finishes seventh at O.C. Championships

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sophomore outside hitter Ryan Moss helped Corona del Mar to a seventh-place showing in the tournament at Edison High on Saturday.

Moss combined for 24 kills in the two matches CdM, ranked No. 10 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll, played on the final day of the two-day tournament.

CdM swept Edison, 27-25, 25-21, 25-14, to clinch seventh. Joey Martino recorded 10 kills, Kevin Fults six kills and Tommy Casey had seven digs for the Sea Kings.

CdM’s Matt Ctvrtlik and Brett Schisler combined for 30 assists against the Chargers.

In the first match, Esperanza beat CdM, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23. Tommy Brooks had seven kills and three blocks, while Ryan Clayton added seven kills and four blocks for the Sea Kings.

CdM (6-6) opens Pacific Coast League play at home against University at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 15, Santa Margarita 2

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA — Senior attacker Jack Ortlieb recorded five goals and four assists in the Sea Kings’ road game on Saturday.

CdM (4-0), ranked No. 6 in the state by laxpower.com, outscored Santa Margarita, 14-1, in the final three quarters.

Goalie Hoyt Crance stopped 10 shots for the Sea Kings, who have allowed around three goals per game.

The Sea Kings play host to Fort Collins of Colorado at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Margaret’s 16, Newport Harbor 9

NEWPORT BEACH — Clay Smyth produced three goals in the Sailors’ nonleague home match on Saturday.

Riley Peterson finished with two goals and assisted on another. He also won six face-offs and had 12 groundballs.

Newport Harbor (2-5) play host to Fort Collins of Colorado at Peninsula Park at 3 p.m. Monday.
