HUNTINGTON BEACH — Charlie Griffen swept in singles, 6-0, 6-1, 7-6, for the Eagles in the nonleague match Wednesday.

The No. 2 doubles team of Sterling Gates and Erik Cerros swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for Estancia (10-3).

The Eagles return to Orange Coast League action Thursday at 3 p.m. at home against Saddleback.


Crean Lutheran 13, Sage Hill 5

NEWPORT BEACH — The Lightning lost to the Saints for the first time in program history in their Academy League opener Wednesday.

The doubles teams of Eric Magliarditi and Sam Sherman, as well as Ryan Lee and Kenan Torlic, each won twice for Sage Hill (0-7, 0-1 in league).

Crean Lutheran is 6-2, 1-1 in league.

The teams play again Tuesday at Crean Lutheran.



Laguna Beach def. Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA — Several Mustangs got their CIF Southern Section Division 3 automatic cuts during the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday at Costa Mesa.

On the boys' side, Tyler Connors auto-qualified for CIF in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.76 seconds. The Mesa boys also won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3.35:79. Victor Gonzalez, Sagang Wee, Raymond Andrade and Connors formed the relay team.

On the girls' side, Lauren Smith auto qualified for CIF in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2.04:52. Kellie Thorsness won both the 50 free and 100 free with times of 25:13 and 54.73 seconds. Both times are auto-qualifiers for CIF.

The Mustangs girls won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3.52:56. Aubry Hill, Kaitlyn Hill, Smith and Thorsness formed the relay team that also earned an auto CIF time.



Newport Harbor 200, San Juan Hills 205

SANTA ANA — Brad Tapfer and Mason Moody both shot two-over-par 38 to share medalist honors for the Sailors in the nonleague match at Santa Ana Country Club Wednesday.

Thomas Terry (41), Max Meisenheimer (41) and Danny Willett (42) also scored for Newport Harbor (8-1).


Calvary Chapel 206, Costa Mesa 231

COSTA MESA — Sushil Bhakta shot four-over-par 39 for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League match at Costa Mesa Country Club's Mesa Linda course Wednesday.

Costa Mesa is 1-7, 0-2 in league.
