High School Roundup: CdM boys’ lacrosse remains undefeated

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior attacker Jack Ortlieb produced four goals for the Sea Kings, ranked No. 5 in the state by laxpower.com, who remained undefeated after Saturday’s home match.

CdM (6-0) and San Clemente (5-3) met in last year’s U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division finale, which the Sea Kings won, 9-6, at Dana Hills High.

The Sea Kings broke away in the second half, getting goals from Ortlieb, Casey Mix, Brett Nelson and Max Kline.

Goalie Hoyt Crance collected 15 saves and Brett Greenlee played well on defense for CdM.

The Sea Kings play host to Danville Monte Vista (7-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Monte Vista is ranked No. 6 in the state.

Beach Cities Invitational

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor High senior Marty Taylor won the shot put and discus events Saturday at Huntington Beach High.

Taylor’s mark in the shot put was 59 feet, 7 inches and he went 174-4 in the discus.

Will Fortier finished third in the shot put (52-2, a personal record) and eighth in the discus (143-2) for the Sailors.

Christian Abbey tied for fourth in the pole vault (13-0) and Marcell DeBarros took seventh in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, finshing in 1 mintue, 43.16 seconds for Newport Harbor.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Beach Cities Invitational

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior Peri Howser won the pole vault by clearing 11 feet for Newport Harbor at the invitational at Huntington Beach High on Saturday.

Newport Harbor’s Natalie Ward placed third in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.70 seconds.

The Sailors compete in a Sunset League tri-meet on Thursday at Huntington Beach at 2 p.m.
