Youth Scene: Express hold off Bats for win

The Express built a 9-0 lead but had to fend off the Bats to hold on for a 9-7 victory in Ocean View Little League Minor A Division action Saturday.

Express pitchers Michael Austin (3 2/3 innings) and Stone Gabriele (1 1/3 innings) combined to shut out the Bats for the first five innings. Austin and Gabriele got plenty of support from the defense behind them, as Cade Haakenson, Tanner Harris, Tyler LaForce and Aaron Linville, made key plays. Offensively, the Express were paced by LaForce, Kai Mullens and Jack Smith.

The Bats put up a furious comeback in the sixth inning by scoring seven runs.
