Woloson a champ

Travis Woloson, a 2010 graduate of Laguna Beach High and now a sophomore outside hitter at UC Irvine, was part of the Anteaters squad that won the 2013 NCAA men’s volleyball national title Saturday.

UCI, the tournament’s at-large team, swept top-seeded BYU, 25-23, 25-22, 26-24, before 6,295 at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. The Anteaters also won the 2012 national title with a sweep of USC, and Saturday’s win gave the program back-to-back championships, a first in the sport since UCLA accomplished the feat in 1995-96.

It is the fourth national title in men’s volleyball for UCI, which won its first two championships in 2007 and 2009.

A campus celebration was held Tuesday to honor the team.
