Sophomore Ali Facey rallied for a 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 triumph over Julianna Bacelar in a four-hour, 30-minute match at No. 5 singles to clinch the team win.

UCI (23-4), the regular-season champion of the Big West Conference but an at-large entry into the NCAA Tournament after falling to Long Beach State in the final of the conference tournament, will face No. 5-ranked USC in the second round on Sunday at noon.

Marivick Mamiit (No. 2), Franziska Goettsching (No. 3) and Sarah Gong (No. 4) also produced points for the Anteaters, who dropped the doubles point despite a victory from its No. 1 tandem of Kristina Smith and Goettsching.

Smith was down, 7-5, 2-6, 5-6 in her singles match when Facey’s win halted the match.

UCI, coached by Mike Edles, lost in the first round in previous NCAA Tournament appearances in 2010 and 2007.
