Two-time Olympian Chris Oeding, a Newport Beach resident and former Corona del Mar High standout, has been named assistant coach for the USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team, Head Coach Adam Krikorian has announced.
The longtime Head Coach at Long Beach City College and captain of the 2000 Olympic Team, Oeding joins the staff of the defending Olympic gold medalists and finalizes the coaching staffs for a host of USA Water Polo National Teams.
Fellow Women’s Senior National Team Assistant Coach Dan Klatt, the UC Irvine coach, will add to his responsibilities by taking on the role of head coach with the Women’s Junior National Team.
Olympic Development Program Boys’ Technical Director James Lathrop takes command of the Men’s Junior National Team as its head coach.
The rest of the coaching staffs for the Junior, Youth, Cadet, and Developmental teams bring together some of the best talent the United States has to offer, said a press release from USA Water Polo based in Huntington Beach.
From veterans of the collegiate and scholastic ranks to coaches with international and Olympic Games experience there is no shortage of coaching acumen in the USA Water Polo pipeline.
“We are fortunate to be able to add a coach of Chris Oeding’s caliber to our Women’s Senior National Team,” said Marty Samuels, USA Water Polo Chief Operating Officer. “His hire rounds out our pipeline with first-rate coaches from top to bottom. I’m excited to see these coaches in action come this summer and I know they will do their very best to bring success to all levels of Team USA.”
Dejan Udovicic is the men’s senior national team coach.
Jason Lynch, a former Newport Harbor High boys’ water polo coach, is the head coach of the Men’s Developmental National Team.
Aaron Chaney, a former Corona del Mar High girls’ water polo coach is an assistant coach for the Women’s Junior National Team.
Ethan Damato, the Laguna Beach High boys’ and girls’ water polo coach, is an assistant coach for the Women’s Youth National Team.
