Youth Scene: CBA, Gapp Construction to meet for title

The Laguna Beach Little League AAA Division postseason championship has come down to one final game.

The division title will be decided at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, when Crescent Bay Advisors and Gapp Construction meet at Riddle Field.

Crescent Bay Advisors beat Gapp Construction Wednesday, 12-6, to force a final showdown between the teams in the double-elimination tournament. Jeremy Hayes and Booker Frith each pitched three innings for CBA. Several great hits that drove in runs came from Frith, Nolan Naess, Aidan McDennon, Ben Kelly, Maddox deBretteville and Jake Cutter.

Gapp Construction was led by Scotty Plowden and Ryan Magers on the mound. Chase Hall, Ashton Rea and Joseph Schenk had big hits on offense.

Gapp Construction previously had picked up a 9-8, last-inning victory on May 17 over CBA. Key hits by Rea and Schenk helped lead Gapp to the exciting win.

Magers, Kaden Herr and Plowden combined to pitch six innings for Gapp. Frith, Naess and Paxton Burzell were on the mound for CBA.

In an elimination game Monday, CBA bounced back from the loss to Gapp Construction to defeat UPS, 7-3, earning another shot at Gapp. Catcher Aidan McDennon threw out a base runner attempting to steal third base to end the game and secure the win for CBA.

Max Schuster had a home run for UPS, his second of the season. George Williams, Hayden Myers and Jamie McKay pitched well for UPS.

Naess pitched four, solid innings and was relieved by Hayes and Burzell who each pitched one inning.

CBA and Gapp Construction finished first and second, respectively, in the division’s regular-season standings.

In AA division action, Bushards beat American Legion, 9-7, to earn a berth in the championship game Tuesday against Lumberyard.
