OCC nets titles

Orange Coast College won the varsity four and the second novice eight on Sunday at the American Collegiate Rowing Assn. national championships in Gainesville, Ga., near Atlanta.

OCC completed the 2,000-meter course in six minutes, 18.8 seconds to defeat Michigan (6:22.9) in the second novice eight final. In that boat for OCC were James Paino, Sean Buck, Angel Galvan, Joe Martin, Jourdan Richman, Cody Raphael, Hayes Dollis, Cody Ridens and coxswain Helena Cosentiini.

In the varsity four grand final, OCC finished in 6:36.8, more than a second better than runner-up Purdue (6:38.1). The boat incluced Joe Morris, Kaleb Pritchett, Austin Gentry, Ben Webster and coxswain Kenzie Schoneman.

OCC was second in the novice eight final. The Pirates’ time of 5:56.6 was bettered only by Virginia (5:55.3).

OCC was third in the novice four grand final, finishing in 6:46.7. Bucknell won (6:40.7), followed by Michigan (same time).

UC Irvine finished fifth in the men’s varsity eight grand final in a time of 5:56.6. Michigan won the event in 5:49.2.
