CdM hires wrestling coach

Mark Alex has been hired as Corona del Mar High’s new wrestling coach, he said Friday.

Alex replaces Gary Almquist, who stepped down after 17 seasons in charge of the Sea Kings.

“I’m very excited,” said Alex, adding that his first day on the job was Friday.

Alex wrestled at El Dorado High, where he won a CIF Southern Section Masters title and went on to place third at the CIF State finals in 1983.

Alex, who wrestled at Stanford, said he coached at Buena Park for the last two years. He said he also has been an assistant at El Dorado.
