Girls’ Tennis: CdM No. 4 seed in Division 1

The Corona del Mar High girls’ tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs Monday.

The Sea Kings (16-3), who finished second in the Pacific Coast League, open at home against La Quinta (10-2) of La Quinta Wednesday at 2 p.m.

La Quinta finished second in the Desert Valley League.

The winner will face the winner of Mater Dei-at-Brentwood. Mater Dei is 9-7, and the third-place team out of the Trinity League. Brentwood is 11-3 and the Alpha League’s second-place team.

Newport Harbor (11-6), which finished second in the Sunset League, also opens at home in the Division 1 playoffs. The Sailors will face Northwood (13-4), which finished third in the PCL.

The winner will play against the winner of the matchup between Manhattan Beach Mira Costa (16-3, Bay League No. 2) vs. Woodland Hills Louisville (8-5, Mission League No. 2) at Mira Costa.

In Division 2, Sage Hill awaits Tuesday’s wild-card winner from the matchup: Cypress (14-5, Empire League No. 3) at South Hills (10-10, Sierra League No. 3).

The Lightning (8-5) won a share of the Academy League championship and is the league’s top representative.

If Sage Hill advances from its Wednesday’s home match, it will play against the winner of Sunny Hills (11-7, Freeway No. 2) at Arcadia (18-1, Pacific No. 2).

Estancia (9-8), which finished third in the Orange Coast League, plays in a Division 2 wild-card match Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Eagles play host to Kennedy (7-7-1), an at-large team that finished fourth in the Empire League.

Tuesday’s winner plays at Burbank (14-2), the Pacific League champion.
