High School Roundup: Sage Hill clinches share of Academy League title

Sage Hill def. St. Margaret’s

Kekai Whitford had 16 kills and one ace to help lead the Lightning to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-7 win, as host Sage Hill clinched a share of the Academy League championship on Tuesday.

Halland McKenna had nine kills, two aces and nine digs, Maddy Abbott amassed 31 assists and eight digs and Allie Mowrey had 17 digs and seven aces for the Lightning (21-5, 11-1 in league), who shared the league title with Crean Lutheran.

Sage Hill, ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 3-A, awaits CIF playoff pairings to be released Saturday.

Newport Harbor def. Marina

Carolyn Bockrath recorded 22 kills to lead the Sailors to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-16 Sunset League home win Tuesday.

Sara Button had six kills, two aces and one block for Newport Harbor (11-20, 6-4 in league), which finished third in the Sunset.

The Sailors will see where they will play when CIF Southern Section playoff pairings are released Saturday.

Calvary Chapel def. Estancia

SANTA ANA – Jordan Perry had eight kills for Estancia in the Orange Coast League match that host Calvary Chapel won , 25-19, 25-11, 25-23, on Tuesday.

Lehua Jordan had six kills for Estancia (8-4 in league).

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Academy League Championships

ORANGE — Sage Hill School finished third out of seven teams and qualifed for the CIF Southern Section Division 5 preliminaries Tuesday at Irvine Regional Park.

Brittany Andressoo led the Ligthning, finishing eighth in 20 minutes, 32 seconds. Julia Lowe (ninth in 20:38), Julia Dupuis (15th in 21:14), Rebecca Fudge (22nd in 21:55) and Brittany Murphy (28th in 22:14) also competed for Sage Hill, which is ranked No. 13 in Division 5.

Crean Lutheran won the league title with 31 points, followed by St. Margaret’s (54 points) and Sage Hill (82).

The Lightning compete at the CIF meet Nov. 16 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY

ORANGE — Sage Hill School finished fourth out of seven teams and qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division 5 prelminaries Tuesday at Irvine Regional Park.

Patrick Hynes led the Lightning, finishing 15th in 17:11. Brian Slaughter (19th in 17:47), Alexis Michaca (20th in 17:49), Edward Goul (22nd in 18:32) and Jacob Diaz (23rd in 18:14) also competed for Sage Hill, which competes in the CIF meet Nov. 16 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

Crean Lutheran won the league title with 26 points, followed by St. Margaret’s (44 points), Oxford Academy (89) and the Lightning (99).

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 16, Savanna 11

Jason Chesemore scored six goals for the Eagles in the nonleague game.

Chris De Frenza and Cody Nelson added three goals each.

John Leal made seven saves and Cesar Coto made four saves.
