Sailors edge Oilers in Sunset League opener

Senior guard Nic Sargeant had 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the Sailors’ Sunset League opener Friday night at home.

Garrett Davis added 12 points and eight rebounds for Newport Harbor (10-7, 1-0 in league).

The Sailors play at Edison on Wednesday night.

Sage Hill 54, Calvary Chapel Downey 11

DOWNEY — Junior guard Krishan Tarsadia had 11 points in Friday’s Academy League game on the road.

Senior guard Jack Williamson added nine points for Sage Hill (10-4, 2-0 in league), and Cameron Hall added eight. Twelve different players scored for Sage.

The Lightning play host to Whitney on Tuesday night.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Newport Harbor 3, Huntington Beach 2

Junior midfielder Jose Garfias scored the eventual game-winner in the 37th minute for the Sailors in Friday’s Sunset League game at home.

Garfias’ goal was assisted by Hugo Enriquez. Jonny Arroyo also scored a pair of first-half goals for Newport Harbor, both assisted by Alan Alcantara.

Victor Negrete and Juan Vargas combined for six saves for the Sailors (4-5-3, 1-1 in league), who play at Edison at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
