Working out for CHOC

On the day after Valentine's Day, trainers and riders at GRIT Cycle in Costa Mesa were still all about showing love.

A large group came together to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Orange County Heart Institute. Every month, the facility for spin workouts raises money for a charity. Marisa Wayne, an owner of GRIT and the daughter of John Wayne, said it would be a great fit with this month to raise money for CHOC Children's Heart Institute.

There are 41 bikes at GRIT and each seat was filled for 90 minutes to benefit the charity.

"Everyone in there had a connection to someone who has had that experience with heart problems," Marisa Wayne said. "We charged $100 for each rider. There was at least $4,100 raised for the day, for that one hour and a half, all the money went straight to CHOC."

Wayne said the event was very meaningful for Dani Gallinger, a GRIT trainer. Gallinger's sister-in-law passed away from heart failure, Wayne said.

"The clients who come in and contribute are the ones who help so much with this charity," Wayne said. It just feels really good to know that you're doing for yourself and your body, and you're giving back to the community. That was always part of our business plan. We wanted to work to give back to local places like CHOC."
