Tars' Alcantara is Sunset League's Most Outstanding Offensive Player

Newport Harbor High junior midfielder Alan Alcantara garnered the Sunset League Most Outstanding Offensive Player award in boys' soccer after he led the Sailors with 12 goals to go with five assists.

Alcantara is joined on the first team by junior midfielder Jose Garfias, senior forward Jonny Arroyo and junior defensive midfielder David Mondragon. The trio was instrumental to the Sailors' second straight third-place finish in league and second straight appearance in the the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Garfias totaled six goals and 10 assists.

Arroyo finished with six goals and six assists.

Mondragon had one goal and two assists.

Senior defenders David Ayala and Chas Beek, and sophomore goalkeeper Victor Negrete are second-team selections from Newport Harbor (8-9-4, 5-4-1 in league).

The Sunset League MVP went to Edison's Conner Gordon.
