Boys’ Tennis: Sailors win Lightning Invitational

The Newport Harbor boys’ tennis team won the four-team Lightning Invitational after beating Crean Lutheran and Sage Hill on Saturday at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.

The Sailors (12-1) topped Crean, 5-4, and Sage Hill, 6-3, in the format featuring five singles and four doubles sets. On Friday, Newport Harbor had beaten Tesoro, 7-2.

Seniors Sean Perrier and Garrett Byers were the tournament doubles MVPs after winning against all three opponents. Perrier and Byers are now 26-1 this season.

Junior David Schaefer, sophomore Gavin Leonard and freshman David Lee earned all-tournament status for their play in both singles and doubles.
