High School Roundup: CdM boys' golf goes low


Corona del Mar 173, University 208

The Sea Kings scored their lowest scored at Newport Beach Country Club Thursday.

Chase Furey shot three-under-par 31, Hale Furey and Drew Hanson both shot even, Karick Brown finished at 35 and John Hong carded a 39 for CdM (13-3, 5-2 in league).


Edison 84, Newport Harbor 52

Rachelle A La Torre won the shotput (36 feet, 8 inches) and discus (108-1) for the Sailors on Thursday.

Hope Bender won the 400 meters in 59.9 and the 200 in 26.5, both were personal-bests. Paige Fults won the 100 in 12.5.

Natalie Ward won the 300 hurdles in 45.6, the second fastest time in NHHS history and Emily Bacon won the 3,200 in 11:40.5.


Corona del Mar 7, University 3

Ryan Pierce was two for four with two runs batted in and a double for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Friday.

Brett Olson (double), Sam Younesi (two for four), Konrad Lyle (one for two, two RBIs), Evan Larsen (two for four, RBI), Nolan McCarthy (one for two, RBI) and AJ Sanchez (RBI) contributred for CdM (4-5 in league).

Olson struck out three and Larsen picked up the save.


Corona del Mar def. Woodbridge

Joey Martino had 15 kills and three digs to lead the Sea Kings to 25-6, 25-19, 25-14 Pacific Coast League win Friday.

Sam Kobrine had five kills, seven digs and eight assists and Jack Molnar added four kills for CdM (19-2, 7-0 in league).

Newport Harbor at Edison

Clay Carr had 18 kills, three blocks and seven digs to lead the Sailors to a 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23 Sunset League win Friday.

Spencer Lujan (eight kills, three blocks), Wyatt Walton (12 kills, nine digs), Grady Kimme (14 kills), Nic Sargeant (nine digs) and Landon Moore (45 assists) also contributed (8-16, 4-3 in league).
