The Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s Team Thunder won the Baldwin Cup team race for the third consecutive year over the weekend, edging clubmate Team Lightning.
The Balboa Yacht Club of Corona del Mar and Larchmont Yacht Club of Larchmont, N.Y., tied for third place.
In all, 139 races were sailed on a course outside the Newport Harbor club during the three-day event that ended Sunday.
“Races often not decided until the last 30 yards (sometimes the last two feet) provided best-in-class stadium-style racing to over 400 spectators,” Newport Harbor Yacht Club Commodore Gary Hill said in a statement.
Other participants in the Baldwin Cup, presented by JPMorgan Chase, were Itchenor Sailing Club of West Itchenor, England, New York Yacht Club of New York City, St. Francis Yacht Club of San Francisco, Seattle Yacht Club, San Diego Yacht Club, Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club of Oyster Bay, N.Y., Southern Yacht Club of New Orleans and Yale Corinthian Yacht Club of Branford, Conn.
