Families gather to celebrate library’s anniversary

Newport Beach families gathered at the Donna and John Crean Mariners Branch Library on Saturday for magic and treats in celebration of the branch’s 10th anniversary.

Children munched on cake and watched as entertainer Abbit the Average performed magic tricks.

The party also was the culmination of National Library Week, which is celebrated each April to honor the contributions of libraries, encourage families to visit and promote reading.

Throughout the week, families visited Newport’s four community libraries for events such as author discussions, workshops and lectures.
