Laguna’s La Sirena Grill closes for repairs after car crashes into it

La Sirena Grill on South Coast Highway in Laguna Beach is closed for repairs after a car crashed into the restaurant Sunday night.

Vincent Okunieski, an assistant manager, said a woman crashed into a wall near the restaurant’s drink station. The driver then backed up and crashed into the building again before hitting a railing in front of Gelson’s Market, Okunieski said.

Laguna Beach police responded to the shopping center in the 30000 block of South Coast Highway around 6:30 p.m. and spoke to the driver. Officers determined that alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, according to Sgt. Tim Kleiser.

“Initial investigation appears the driver was attempting to park the vehicle but pressed on the accelerator instead of the brake,” Kleiser said.

No arrests or citations were made, and no one was injured, Kleiser said.

The cost of the damage to La Sirena Grill was not immediately known. Okunieski said he didn’t know when the restaurant will reopen.
