Political Landscape: Costa Mesa mayor to kick off reelection campaign

Costa Mesa Mayor Steve Mensinger will hold his reelection campaign kickoff event June 22 at South Coast Collection.

It will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Bistro Papillote, 3313 Hyland Ave.

Mensinger was first appointed to the City Council in 2011 after serving on the Planning Commission. He won election in 2012 and is up for a second four-year term on the five-member council.

Other declared candidates for the November election are former Councilman Jay Humphrey, Eastside residents Lee Ramos and Julie Mercurio, State Streets resident Al Melone and Mesa Verde resident John Stephens.

Allan Mansoor, a former Costa Mesa mayor and state assemblyman, has filed election paperwork but has not officially announced his candidacy for the council.

Councilwoman Sandy Genis also is up for reelection. Councilman Gary Monahan is termed out.

School board candidates plan meet-and-greet

Three candidates for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District board plan a fundraiser and meet-and-greet next week.

Thursday’s event will support Michael Schwarzman, Leslie Bubb and Amy Peters.

It will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at a home at 312 Signal Road, Newport Beach.

School board President Dana Black and board members Vicki Snell and Martha Fluor are up for reelection this year.
