BASEBALL
Vanguard 14, Marymount 2
Brandon Sandoval and Jose Rojas both homered for the host Lions in the nonconference game Tuesday.
Sandoval was three for four with four runs batted in and Rojas was three for six with two RBIs and two runs scored for No. 15-ranked Vanguard.
Sam Neufeld and Kevin Bettencourt had two hits apiece to contribute to the Lions’ 13-hit attack.
Chris Lumanlan allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out in five innings to earn his third win without a loss this season.
Three Vanguard relievers held the visitors (12-20-1) to one hit in four shutout innings.
Vanguard (27-9-1) is now 4-0-1 against Marymount of California this season, outscoring the first-year program, 41-14.
The Lions play host to Bethesda of California in a three-game nonconference series beginning Friday at 2:30 p.m.

UC Irvine 14, Hawaii 4
HONOLULU — The visiting Anteaters salvaged the third game of the Big West Conference series on Sunday as eight players had multiple hits.
Mitchell Holland was three for four with two runs batted in and three runs scored, while Adam Alcantara was three for four and scored three times for UCI (16-9, 1-2 in conference).
Grant Palmer and Parker Coss had two hits and three RBIs apiece, while Cole Kreuter was three for six and Matt Reitano went two for five with two RBIs.
Keston Hiura was the lone starter without a hit, which ended his 14-game hitting streak. Hiura did score two runs to extend his streak of reaching base to 41 games.
Mitchell Miller pitched four scoreless innings to earn the victory after starter Cameron Bishop was chased after allowing four runs on four hits and getting only four outs.
Late Saturday night, Hawaii posted an 8-5 win after earning a 5-1 lead through two innings.
Palmer was two for three with one RBI, while Kreuter was two for five for the ‘Eaters.
UCI starter Shaun Vetrovec allowed seven hits and five runs (four earned) in four innings to absorb the loss and fall to 2-3.
Hawaii completed the series at 13-15, 2-1.
UCI opens a three-game conference series at home against UC Riverside on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UC Irvine def. USC
LOS ANGELES — The visiting Anteaters hit a season-best .515 to record a 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 sweep in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play Sunday at the Galen Center.
Junior Michael Saeta led the winners with 14 kills and hit .667, while junior Thomas Hodges added 10 kills and shared team-high honors with five digs.
Junior Tamir Hershko returned to the lineup after an extended absence and recorded six kills.
Senior Marty Ross converted all five of his kill attempts and had seven total blocks for No. 14-ranked UCI (9-18, 6-14 in conference).
With two MPSF matches left, UCI is tied for eighth place with Cal State Northridge and Cal Baptist as the ‘Eaters’ try to secure one of eight berths in the MPSF Tournament.
UCI plays host to Cal State Northridge on Thursday at 7 p.m., and closes the regular season at home on Saturday against Long Beach State.

UCLA invitational
LOS ANGELES — UC Irvine’s Kyle Hubbard won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.30 seconds to top the Anteaters’ who competed Saturday.
Isaiah Thompson placed second in the 1,500 meters in 3:52.6 to help the Anteaters earn 45 team points, good for seventh place.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
UCLA invitational
LOS ANGELES — Tyra Jones was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles and Melanie Speech was sixth in the javelin to pace UC Irvine on Saturday at UCLA.
Jones’ time was one minute, 1.73 seconds, while Speech’s mark was 137 feet, four inches.
UCI was 10th in the team standings.

San Diego Crew Classic
SAN DIEGO — The Orange Coast College varsity four boat won its event on Sunday to highlight the Pirates’ efforts.
Frankie Garzzi, Alexis Aeolli, Natasha Rojkind, Kaylee Gioff and coxswain Sophie Baker completed the 2,000-meter course in 8 minutes, 57.6 seconds, nearly 10 seconds better than runner-up Cal.
OCC was second in the varsity eight in 7:19.66, almost three seconds behind UC Santa Barbara.
OCC was third in the novice eight final.

San Diego Crew Classic
SAN DIEGO — The Orange Coast College novice eight boat won its event to pace the Pirates on Sunday in Mission Bay.
OCC’s novice eight of Garrett O’Neill, Jose Llanes, Joshua Baar, David Elder, Bryan Fullam, Troy Harding, Ryan Russell, Grant Midstokke and coxswain Riley Ritchie posted a time of 7 minutes, 8.07 seconds, more than 11 seconds better than runner-up UC Santa Barbara.
OCC’s varsity eight finished third, completing the 2,000-meter course in 6:44.51.
