BELLFLOWER — The Corona del Mar High boys’ volleyball team won the first two sets but couldn’t finish in its CIF Southern Section Division 1 second-round match at Bellflower St. John Bosco Thursday night.

Tommy Brooks had 15 kills on 23 attempts with five blocks and no hitting errors for CdM (19-11).

“Both our middles played great [Brooks and Miller],” CdM Coach Steve Conti said in a telephone interview. “We certainly had some chances. We couldn’t make some plays when we needed to make the plays for the most part.

The team has come a long way since the beginning of the season, but you still have to play better along the way and be able to finish. Game 5 was a see-saw, back and forth. It was a battle. We’re a very young team. Playing on the road, we just weren’t able to make the plays we needed to make.”
