Crescenta Valley Briefs: CV Land Use Committee meeting; CV Alliance ‘intelligence’ talk

The Crescenta Valley Land Use Committee will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the community room at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd.

Agenda items include a discussion on allowing wine and beer sales at Tofu Love, located at 3115 Foothill Blvd., and code enforcement of signage along Foothill Boulevard.

The CV Alliance will host a talk about “Emotional Intelligence vs. Academic Intelligence” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Crescenta Valley High School, 2009 Community Ave., La Crescenta.

The free event, which is open to the public, will be held in the school’s library.

Melina Sardar, from Ark Family Center Inc., will lead the talk about how decision-making impacts the two types of intelligence.

The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly Art Walk from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Montrose Shopping Park.

Vendors will be situated along Honolulu Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard.

The Foothills YMCA will host its second annual Life Walk for Safe and Healthy Youth Life Skills at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The walk will begin at two locations: La Cañada Memorial Park, 1327 Foothill Blvd., and Verdugo Hills YMCA, 6840 Foothill Blvd. Both walks will end at Rosemont Middle School, 4725 Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta.

A Life Skills Fair will begin at 10:46 a.m. at Rosemont Middle School.

Each student participant will receive one ticket as part of a raffle to win a free Ford Escape. Students must be present at the raffle and enrolled in ninth through 12th grades to be eligible. The raffle will be held at 12:16 p.m.

Crescenta Valley High School’s Prom Plus Committee will host its “2014 Boutique” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Saint Luke’s of the Mountain’s Episcopal Church, 2563 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta, in Sadler Hall and in the church’s courtyard.

The boutique, an annual fundraiser, will include 25 vendors with handmade merchandise and a performance by the high school’s a cappella group, the Charismatics. Speakers will be present to talk about the social-media website Pinterest, cooking ideas and popular children’s books.

The CV Alliance will host another in its series of “Parent Sessions” from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the library at Crescenta Valley High School, 2009 Community Ave., La Crescenta.

The session, titled “Risky Behavior and How to be a Lifesaver,” will be led by Alex Gutham, a mental wellness counselor. It will cover how parents can spot at-risk behaviors in youth. The session is free and open to the public.
