Crescenta Valley Briefs: Montrose Old-town Christmas returns; YMCA Christmas tree lot
The Third Church of Christ, Scientist, located at 2406 Honolulu Ave., Montrose, will hold a Thanksgiving Day service at 10 a.m.
The one-hour service will include music, prayer, congregational singing and a Bible lesson during the first half hour.
The second half hour will be for sharing gratitude, blessings and brief testimonies of healing and spiritual growth.

The “Montrose Old-Town Christmas” will return this Friday at 7 p.m. on Honolulu Avenue in the Montrose Shopping Park.
The event will kick off with a tree-lighting ceremony, carolers and Santa Claus.
There will also be horse-drawn trolleys, pony rides, carolers, Christmas music and a petting zoo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every weekend until Dec. 25 in the shopping park.

The YMCA Foothills’ “Y Christmas Tree Lot” will open for the season from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the YMCA’s Crescenta-Cañada location, 1930 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge.
The tree lot will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. The lot will close Dec. 22.
The lot is run by the Y’s Youth in Business Club, along with youth and government delegates from area high schools, to raise $50,000 for the YMCA Foothills’ youth and development programs.

The CV Alliance, which works to prevent underage drug and alcohol use in the Crescenta Valley, will host a talk titled “Current Trends and What to Look For” from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the library at Crescenta Valley High School, 2900 Community Ave., La Crescenta.
Deputy Eric Matejka with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will lead the discussion, which is part of the organization’s “Parent Sessions” series. The event is free and open to the public.

The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly mixer from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Boulevard 34, 3427 Ocean Blvd., Montrose.
The event is open to the public and will include food, prizes and beverages. It costs $7 for members and $9 for nonmembers.

The La Crescenta Woman’s Club is selling tickets for its annual “Breakfast with Santa” event, which will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 6.
The event will be held in the organization’s clubhouse, 4004 La Crescenta Ave., La Crescenta.
Children can have their pictures taken with Santa and receive a small gift. Arts and crafts will be provided, in addition to raffles for prizes.
