Police arrest undressed man in Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa police on Friday arrested a man suspected of running naked through residential areas.

Michael Caggiano, 31, a transient, was arrested after police received multiple calls about a naked man running through neighborhoods, said CMPD Sgt. Bang Le.

“It caused quite a stir,” Le said.

Residents living near Baker Street and Royal Palm Drive first reported seeing an undressed man at 4:30 a.m., Le said. Police arrived, but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

Less than an hour later, police received another report of a naked man running through the 2900 block of Ellesmere Avenue, Le said.

Again, police flooded the area, but did not find him.

Almost another hour passed, and police received another call from the 2800 block of Stromboli Road. That’s where police spotted and arrested Caggiano without incident, Le said.

Caggiano, he said, was completely naked and appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant.
