Biz News: Newport business reimagines the clothes hanger

Share

Helane Royce said she was inspired by the frustration of swinging through every style on store racks to see which had the shoulder cutout, which can make garments look more like tank tops as the semi-detached sleeves dangle off the hanger.

So the Newport Beach woman has re-engineered the clothes hanger. Royce’s Her Royal Hanger is a thick but lightweight plastic hanger on a swivel hook — think the type often seen on store racks — with four notches on the arms (instead of two) to make sure blouses and dresses with the trendy “cold shoulder” cutout style stay neatly in place.

By holding the sleeves up in the lower grippy notches, the hanger gives at-a-glance identification and keeps the sleeves from tipping the hanger and sliding toward the floor. The hanger also accommodates wide-neck, off-the-shoulder and classic full-coverage styles.

Anti-fog tech creators find backers

Newport Beach-based AFC has reached its Kickstarter goal and is preparing to sell its anti-fog film for lenses and other clear surfaces.

The hydrophilic coated film layers atop mirrors, helmet shields, goggles and car windshields to lower the distortion rate through water droplets and allow moisture to disperse quickly.

The Kickstarter campaign is still active at kck.st/2KLYlyv for customers who want to be the first to get the product. The creators expect delivery in November.
