Chargers open preseason training camp in Costa Mesa

The smiles were out and the anticipation was brimming Saturday as the Los Angeles Chargers welcomed a throng of fans to the opening of the NFL team’s second preseason training camp at Costa Mesa’s Jack R. Hammett Sports Complex.

Aside from the chance to see and interact with the Bolts, visitors could sample offerings from food trucks, grab new gear at a merchandise tent and try their hands at a collection of interactive activities.

Team practices are free for the public to attend and will take place periodically through Aug. 23.

The Chargers will hold an intrasquad scrimmage Aug. 4 and host two joint practices with the New Orleans Saints to close out the camp.

Where: Jack R. Hammett Sports Complex, 2750 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa

When: 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Monday and Aug. 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 13, 15, 16, 20, 22 and 23

Cost: Free. Parking is $10 at the OC Fair & Event Center, 88 Fair Drive.
