The Costa Mesa Police Department announced Friday that it has hired a new civilian public affairs manager, a first in the department’s history.

Roxi Fyad will handle the department’s daily media-related inquiries, write news releases, manage its social media accounts and do community outreach.

Fyad comes to Costa Mesa after working as the spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office, where she first started in 2007 as a public relations staffer.

“I’m excited to welcome Roxi to the Costa Mesa police family and am looking forward to her contributions to our department and community,” Police Chief Rob Sharpnack said in a statement. “Roxi successfully navigated a very competitive recruitment process, and I believe she will do a great job in representing us and strengthening our community partnerships.”
