High School Boys’ Basketball Roundup: Chalmers leads Newport Harbor in Tartan Classic opener

Junior forward Dayne Chalmers scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds, leading the Newport Harbor High boys’ basketball team to a 64-48 win against Capistrano Valley Christian in an opening pool-play game in the St. Margaret’s Tartan Classic on Monday night.

Brad Siegel contributed 17 points for the Sailors (5-1).

Newport Harbor resumes tournament play against Brea Olinda on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Sage Hill 81, Pacifica Christian Orange County 71

Sophomore small forward Justin Lin finished with 26 points and six three-pointers for the Lightning in pool-play action during the St. Margaret’s Tartan Classic on Monday.

Cooper Green added 21 points for Sage Hill (3-3), and Johnny King had 17 points.

Pacifica Christian’s Dominick Harris produced a game-high 35 points to go with six threes.

Sage Hill has a tournament game with University on Tuesday at 5 p.m., while the Tritons (2-4) face University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Marina 55, Warren 53

Junior forward Jakob Alamudun led the Vikings with 21 points in their opening game in the Artesia Winter Classic on Monday.

Marina (4-2) next plays Compton Centennial in the tournament on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Trabuco Hills 60, Edison 57, OT

The Chargers dropped their season opener in the Corona del Mar Beach Bash on Monday.

Edison faces Tamanawis, from British Columbia, Canada, in the tournament on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Santa Margarita 90, Costa Mesa 34

Junior guard Osman Hefner finished with 16 points in the Mustangs’ opening game in the Corona del Mar Beach Bash on Monday.

Costa Mesa (2-5) returns to tournament action against Manhattan Beach Mira Costa on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
