CdM’s Browning competing for Team USA in 19U world championships

Brandon Browning, an incoming senior at Corona del Mar High, is competing for the United States in Riffa, Bahrain for the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championships.

As of Tuesday, Team USA had faced all other competitors in Pool A, ending up in a tie for second after going 3-1 within the bracket. Team USA matched Bahrain with eight points to qualify for the Round of 16, which will begin on Thursday.

Pool A leader Egypt was the only team to defeat the United States. Despite dropping the first set, Egypt won the match, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.

Team USA scored victories over Bahrain (28-26, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23), Puerto Rico (25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22) and Tunisia (28-30, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24, 15-9).

Browning had six kills and one block in the win over Puerto Rico.

In his junior season with the Sea Kings, the USC-bound outside hitter tallied 259 kills, 74 digs, 25 aces and 24 blocks. Those numbers earned Browning All-CIF honors, along with three of his CdM teammates. The others were Mitch Haly, Patrick Paragas and Jake Meyer.
