Edison, Corona del Mar to vie in CIF Division 1 boys’ soccer playoffs

The Corona del Mar and Edison high school boys’ soccer teams will each compete in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs beginning next week, two of eight local boys’ soccer teams that made it to the postseason.

In girls’ soccer, Costa Mesa drew the No. 1 seed in Division 5 when brackets were released Saturday, while Los Amigos is the No. 3 seed.

All matches are scheduled for 3 p.m. unless noted.

Edison (13-5-5), the Surf League boys’ soccer champion, opens its Division 1 postseason with a home match against Santa Margarita (7-6-7) on Thursday. The Eagles were an at-large team from the Trinity League.

Corona del Mar (12-4-2), an at-large team from the Surf League, plays at Santa Ana (20-5-2) in the first round Thursday. The Saints were co-champions of the Orange Coast League, along with Saddleback.

An all-local matchup will take place in Division 2. Wave League champion Huntington Beach (9-13-3) hosts Estancia (14-6-3), the third-place team from the Orange Coast League, on Thursday at 5 p.m. Also in Division 2, Wave League runner-up Fountain Valley (14-6) hosts Santiago (19-4-2), the third-place team from the Garden Grove League, on Thursday.

In Division 5, Garden Grove League co-champion Los Amigos (14-3-1) hosts El Monte (8-15-2), the third-place team from the Mission Valley League on Thursday.

Pacifica Christian Orange County (6-8-4), the third-place team from the Academy League, plays at Arrowhead League champion United Christian Academy (12-1-1) in the first round Thursday. Sage Hill boys’ soccer, the San Joaquin League runner-up, is a wild-card in Division 6 and hosts Long Beach St. Anthony, the No. 3 team from the Camino Real League, on Tuesday.

In girls’ soccer, Costa Mesa earned the top seed in Division 5 after winning the Orange Coast League title, its first since 2009. The Mustangs (15-2-4) host either Campbell Hall or Adelanto in the first round Wednesday.

Los Amigos (14-3-1) earned the No. 3 seed in Division 5. The Garden Grove League champions will host the wild-card winner between Segerstrom and Oxford Academy on Wednesday.

Four local teams will compete in Division 1, though only Newport Harbor (16-2-6) is at home. The Wave League champion Sailors host Mission Viejo (9-3-5) on Wednesday. Surf League runner-up CdM (13-3-4) plays at Freeway League champion Troy (13-1-3), while Surf League at-large Huntington Beach (11-7-8) plays at South Coast League champion Aliso Niguel (11-0-4) at 5 p.m.

Edison (11-7-4), another at-large team from the Surf League, plays at Baseline League champion Upland (18-1) in the first round.

In Division 3, Wave League runner-up Laguna Beach (4-10-5) hosts Brea Olinda (14-10-2), which tied for second in the North Hills League, on Wednesday.

Ocean View (8-7-4) plays at San Gabriel Mission (17-7-1) in a Division 4 first-round match, while Sage Hill (7-3-3) hosts Nogales (13-8-2) in Division 5. In Division 6, Pacifica Christian Orange County (16-3) plays at the Archer School for Girls (10-5-1).

Estancia (8-8-1) hosts Lynwood (10-14-4) in a Division 5 wild-card match Monday.
