High School Roundup: Estancia ties Corona del Mar

Senior Andy Martinez scored in the 64th minute, allowing the Estancia High boys’ soccer team to tie Corona del Mar 1-1 in a nonleague match at home on Friday night.

Angel Ortiz assisted on the equalizer.

Sophomore Aidan Holmes had the Sea Kings’ goal in the 37th minute, coming on an assist from Grant Glessing.

Estancia (2-1-2) travels to Marina on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. match, while CdM (3-1-1) plays host to Tesoro on Monday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Mission Viejo 52, Newport Harbor 50: The Sailors lost in the waning seconds of the semifinals at the St. Margaret’s Tartan Classic on Friday night.

Tristan Williams hit a game-winning shot with 2.5 seconds left in overtime, lifting the Diablos to Saturday’s championship game. Mission Viejo will face San Juan Hills in the final at 7:30 p.m.

Newport Harbor (6-2) plays University in the third-place game at 6 p.m.

The Sailors fell short of reaching a tournament championship game for the second straight time. They lost to Laguna Beach in the Grizzly Invitational at Godinez High on Dec. 1.

La Salle 70, Marina 69: Junior forward Jakob Alamudun recorded 34 points in Marina’s semifinal game of the Artesia Winter Classic on Friday.

The Vikings fell to 5-3.

Corona del Mar 52, Santa Fe Christian 48: Senior guard Kevin Kobrine scored 18 points on Friday, helping the host Sea Kings advance to the fifth-place game in the CdM Beach Bash.

CdM (2-1) next plays Edison (2-1) on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Jack Garza added nine points for the Sea Kings, who outscored defending CIF San Diego Section Division I champion Solana Beach Santa Fe Christian 16-5 in the third quarter.

Edison 62, Mira Costa 52: Senior center Josh Phillips finished with 18 points in the Chargers’ game in the CdM Beach Bash on Friday.

Aiden Garnett contributed 12 points for Edison (2-1), while David Atencio had 11 points.

The Chargers outscored Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 17-8 in the fourth quarter.

Ocean View 84, Huntington Beach 64: Senior center Mehkel Harvey scored 17 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked four shots for the host Seahawks in Friday’s nonleague game.

Ocean View’s Vincent Caiazzo finished with 21 points and three three-pointers. Paul Head had 16 points, eight assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

The Seahawks (4-2) open the Loara Tournament with Western on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Laguna Beach 58, Irvine 44: Senior guard Blake Burzell’s 23 points helped the visiting Breakers improve to 7-0 on Friday.

Grady Morgan chipped in 14 points in the nonleague contest for Laguna Beach, which led 35-25 at halftime.

The Breakers face Buena Park in the Westminster Tournament on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Estancia 77, Oxford Academy 42: Senior forward Jackson Winters produced 15 points in the Eagles’ nonleague game at home on Friday.

Cameron Jones had 13 points and Jake Covey added 12 for Estancia (6-3).

The Eagles play at Norwalk Glenn on Dec. 16.

Tustin 63, Sage Hill 59: Junior center Johnny King had 20 points for the Lightning in a St. Margaret’s Tartan Classic game on Friday.

Sage Hill (3-5) wraps up the tournament against Bell Gardens on Saturday at 1 :30 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Los Amigos 57, Laguna Beach 22: Senior forward Melissa Figueroa had a team-high 14 points for the Lobos in a Hawk Holiday Classic game at Liberty Christian High on Friday.

The Lobos (3-4) defeated the Breakers (0-9) for the second time this season, having also done so in the Vernie Ford Fullerton Tournament.

Los Amigos sophomore shooting guard Kathleen Nguyen had 11 points.

Pacifica 46, Marina 39: Katie Nguyen had 21 points, 14 rebounds, eight steals and three blocks for the Vikings in a pool-play game of the Hawk Holiday Classic on Friday at Liberty Christian High.

Kat Robinson added nine points for Marina (3-5), and Jasmine Broussard had seven rebounds and two steals.

El Toro 50, Sage Hill 46: The Lightning were outscored 17-10 in the final frame during a Hawk Holiday Classic game at Oxford Academy on Friday.

Emily Elliott led Sage Hill with 19 points, followed by nine points from Joyce Jogwe.

Sage Hill (4-3) will play Downey Warren (2-1) at noon on Saturday at Oxford Academy.

Tustin 53, Ocean View 36: Junior center Helen Reynolds had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the Seahawks’ game in the Hawk Holiday Classic.

Erica Almiranez had eight points, and Emi Yamasaki added six points for Ocean View (2-2).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Laguna Beach 5, Tesoro 2: Senior Sterling Butler scored twice in the Breakers’ nonleague match at home on Friday.

Jet Rocha and Carson Cushing each had a goal for Laguna Beach (2-2-0), which plays at Ocean View on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Pacifica Christian Orange County 7, Eldorado Emerson 1: Aidan Murphy, Noah Redman and Kelly Murphy finished with two goals apiece in the host Tritons’ offensive breakout on Friday.

Hunter Alexander had two assists.

Pacifica Christian (2-3-1) plays at home against The Webb, from Claremont, on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Servite 6, Newport Harbor 1: The visiting Sailors dropped to 2-4-0 with the nonleague result on Friday.
