A Huntington Beach woman whose car flipped over early Monday was arrested after a tussle with police officers on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa.

Costa Mesa police responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at 12:27 a.m. at the intersection of Harbor and Nutmeg Place, adjacent to the Costa Mesa Square shopping center.

When officers arrived, a car was flipped on its roof and a woman was standing nearby talking on her cellphone. The driver, who was not injured in the crash, tried to flee when police approached, said Costa Mesa police Sgt. Bang Le. After being handcuffed, she spit on one officer and tried to head-butt and bite another, Le said.

Authorities believe the woman was driving under the influence of alcohol when she hit a decorative rock in the center divider, Le said.

Diane Marie Mceveely, 21, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run and assault on an officer, Le said.
