Gunman robs Costa Mesa doughnut shop
Police are searching for a man who robbed a Costa Mesa doughnut shop at gunpoint Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Police responded to a report of a robbery at about 5:30 a.m. at Any Oldtime Donuts at 1113 Baker St., Costa Mesa police Sgt. Bang Le said.
By the time police arrived, the robber had fled west down Baker, Le said.
The employee who reported the robbery told police that the man walked into the shop, which was open at the time, with a semiautomatic handgun and told the employee to open the cash register, Le said.
The employee gave the man the money in the register, which totaled $20, Le said. The employee was not injured.
Le described the robber as 6 feet with black curly hair and wearing a red jacket and dark jeans.
