The Armenian American Medical Society elected its 2016 board of directors at the organization’s general assembly held recently at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. More than 60 members attended the event.

The following board members were reelected or remained to serve:

Dr. Raffi Tachdjian was elected president, dentist Armond Kotikian was elected vice president, pharmacist Silva Gasparian was elected treasurer and Dr. Evelyn Baghdasraian Barkhoudarian was elected membership chair.

New to the board are Dr. Kevin Galstyan, who was elected secretary, pharmacist Tadeh Vartanian, who was elected parliamentarian, and Dr. Lusine Simonyants, who was elected as an adviser.

Dr. Serineh V. Melidonian, immediate past president, and Dr. Manual P. Momjian, immediate past vice president, will serve as advisers.

Tachdjian said he is eager to begin his work as president of the society’s executive board.

“I want to continue strengthening the academic standing and collaborative efforts within [the society],” he said in a statement. “We will focus on broadening our outreach efforts, solidifying our programs and promoting collaboration within our organization and with others.”

In addition, Vartanian’s election to the board holds special meaning for the society. In 2011, he was the recipient of an Armenian Medical Society’s scholarship, which he used to complete his pharmacist studies.

“Having scholarship recipients from the mentorship program who later serve as mentors and leaders themselves was a dream I had from the time we started this program,” Tachdjian said. “This reinforces the notion that together we will continue to realize the mission of this organization.”
