Arts Briefs: Artist’s 40 years of work on display in Burbank

Los Angeles artist Ernie Marjoram will show 40 years of work in “Drawn from Life,” opening May 6 at the Creative Arts Center Gallery in Burbank. The work will be a selection of works in oils, pencil, pen, watercolor and acrylics.

Marjoram, a member of the California Art Club, and his work has been exhibited at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. He is represented by TAG Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica. He has often depicted architectural icons in his work, along with including charcoal portraits, figure drawings and still lifes. Marjoram’s most recent work are oils of scenes from Italy, Spain and Ireland.

“Drawn from Life” is open through May 26. The May 6 opening reception is 7 to 9 p.m. at Creative Arts Center Gallery, 1100 W. Clark Ave., Burbank. More information at (818) 238-5397.

Young voices sought for musical

Auditions for student performers in grades 7 to 12 are being held for Lerner and Loewe’s musical “Brigadoon,” a production at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, on May 14, 10 a.m. to noon. It will be the church’s 43rd annual summer musical production. Adults are also welcome to try out for the few adult roles. Younger kids are welcome to audition too.

Those cast will be expected to attend daily rehearsals, weekdays beginning on June 25 and continuing through the performances July 27 to 30. There is no cost to participate.

Downtown Pasadena hosts annual music festival

The annual free Make Music Pasadena festival on June 11 will feature performances by Atlas Genius, Bear Hands, the Mowgli’s, Small Black, Nahko and Medicine for the People, PAPA, James Supercave, Phantoms, the Dead Ships and many others on six main stages.

Those names amount to a small sampling of the day’s more than 150 bands of various genres, including rock, folk, jazz, electronica, funk and world music. The music is spread across a wide area of downtown Pasadena, at stages from the Pasadena Playhouse and the 1930s band shell at Memorial Park. There will also be a wide variety of vendors and food trucks. Transit buses will take visitors to different spots along the stretch of entertainment.

Registration available for Playhouse’s summer camp

“Panto Camp at the Playhouse” is a summer camp hosted by the Pasadena Playhouse and Lythgoe Family Productions, offering kids ages 8 to 13 a week of song, dance and improvisation. The interactive week has kids exploring modernized versions of Grimm fairy tales and other stories. The Panto Camp offers two separate sessions on July 18 to 23, and July 25 to 30.

Comedian Jeff Garlin set to perform in Burbank

Jeff Garlin of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and ABC’s sitcom “The Goldbergs” will appear onstage four times this June at Flappers in Burbank. Garlin is a frequent performer on the Flappers stage and returns for two shows a night on June 24 and 25. Performances are at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tickets are $20, with a two item minimum. Advance purchase of tickets recommended.
