Guitarist Robby Krieger of the Doors will headline a special benefit concert at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on Sept. 16 called “Break On Through.” He’ll be joined by Robert Deleo of Stone Temple Pilots and Rami Jaffee of the Wallflowers. Glendale rock duo the Bots will also perform. More artists are to be announced.

The concert is a benefit for Music Path, whose mission is to bring music, creativity and life skills to high schools. The group has so far managed to reach more than 1 million students around the globe.

The Krieger event will also offer a chance for 30 fans to personally meet the acclaimed guitarist — who wrote the Doors hits “Light My Fire” and “Roadhouse Blues” — at a preshow meet-and-greet for an additional price. The show is also part of Glendale’s “Tech Week,” promoting local technology and innovation.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $50; $125 for the preshow event with Krieger. More information at (818) 243-2539 and www.alextheatre.org.

‘Maids’ for murder

Jean Genet’s play “The Maids” will be the second production of 25th anniversary season presented by A Noise Within, the classical repertory theater company in Pasadena. The play begins Sunday, Sept. 18, and continues through Nov. 12.

Directed by Stephanie Shroyer, “The Maids” follows two housemaids who create elaborate role-play scenes while their employer is away, and drift into dangerous notions and behavior. Genet’s play was based on the true story of sisters who murdered their employer and her daughter in Le Mans, France.

“‘The Maids’ was certainly a genre-breaker when it was first produced in 1947, and it continues to be timely,” company artistic director Geoff Elliott said in a statement, “especially the idea of playing out the fantasies and dreams of the people hurt by the more powerful in their lives.”

Single tickets begin at $44. A Noise Within is at 3352 E. Foothill Blvd. More information at (626) 356-3100, Ext. 1, and www.anoisewithin.org.

Life stories

Local singer-songwriter Chuck Alvarez will appear Sept. 23 at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena in a one-man play of music and stories written for him: “Chuck Alvarez, Music & Courage.”

The 45-minute play was written by Larry Heimgartner and Alvarez as one chapter in Heimgartner’s series of plays he calls “The Our World Project.” Each play deals with current issues in society, and “Music & Courage” is based on the experiences of Alvarez as he has pursued a life of music. Alvarez has built a career rooted in his love for blues-rock, R&B, light jazz and Americana.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. The Coffee Gallery Backstage is at 2029 N. Lake. More information at (626) 798-6236.
