Glendale PTA: Student success, parenting are in focus

Join the Glendale Educational Foundation on Thursday as it screens the 2015 Sundance film “Most Likely to Succeed,” a compelling look at the current U.S. education system and how its future may look.

A panel discussion with guests from the academic, business and student worlds will follow. Guests will also meet Winfred Roberson Jr., Glendale Unified’s new superintendent. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd.

Adult tickets are $10, and students may attend free of charge. Tickets for preferred seating and a VIP reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. are $50.

“Thriving with Your Teen,” a free parent workshop sponsored by the Glendale Unified School District’s Student Support Services Department, will be held at 6 p.m. on May 11, at the Library Connection @ Adams Square, 1100 E. Chevy Chase Drive. Seating is limited. To pre-register, call (818) 548-3833.

Glendale High School

An Armenian Genocide Remembrance Assembly for students and staff will be held on Friday.

The spring season’s vocal music concert will be presented at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and the instrumental music concert will be presented at 7 p.m. next Wednesday. Both concerts will be presented in the John Wayne Performing Arts Center.

The Glendale High PTSA will meet at 6 p.m. on May 16 in the school’s library.

Congratulations to the 2016 Pat Navolanic Memorial Award finalists, Claire Dugger, Rachel Harmon, Andrew Nazarians and Ericka Wong. The winner will be announced on May 13.

Wilson Middle School

The final PTSA Dining for Dollars fundraiser for the school year will be held today at Tommy’s World Famous Hamburgers, 1717 Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock, with 20% of sales going to Wilson’s PTSA. Print the flier from the website wilsonknights.org. Take it with you to the restaurant and present it when you order.

Wilson’s PTSA will host a parent and student workshop titled “Underage Drinking — Get the Facts” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the school’s library. The event will also include a student breakout session.

John Marshall Elementary School

John Marshall’s PTA will hosting a Dine Out fundraiser all day next Wednesday at IHOP restaurant, 605 N. Glendale Ave., Glendale. Have a great meal and help John Marshall’s PTA, too.

Another PTA Family Movie Night is scheduled for April 29, at the school, starting at 7:30 p.m.

An open house for students’ parents and families will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 4.

R.D. White Elementary School

R.D. White will host its science fair and art exhibit from 5:30 to 8 p.m. next Wednesday.

The school’s open house is set from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 5.

Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School

The Verdugo Woodlands’ PTA board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on May 12.

The school’s orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Wilson Middle School auditorium.
