Classic cars will once again make an annual pit stop along Brand Boulevard for the 23rd annual Glendale Cruise Night on Saturday.

More than 300 classic American rides will be showcased on downtown Glendale’s main strip between Doran Street and Broadway.

Each entry had to be manufactured before 1980 in order to be eligible. This year, a different type of vehicle will be allowed for the first time.

“We’re going to have a few pre-1980 motorcycles that registered,” said Onnig Bunalikian, interim director of the city’s community services and parks department. “We’re hoping to get even more motorcycles registered for next year.”

The city of Glendale has been planning Cruise Night since the beginning of the year, but for the fourth year in a row, it’s fully sponsored by corporate and community donations.

About 40,000 people are expected to descend on Brand for Cruise Night.

“[Cruise Night] is one of the city’s longest traditions and the city’s largest event,” Bulanikian said. “It brings the community together not only in Glendale, but also people from Ventura County, Orange County and San Diego.”

The free event will start at 5:30 p.m. and will cap off with a fireworks display at 10:30 p.m.

Among the three live music acts to perform at Cruise Night will be the Eagles tribute band Desperado, which will pay a musical salute to late Eagles front man Glenn Frey. Also set to take the stage will be Surfin’, a Beach Boys tribute band, and the Surfaris, which will be playing their signature hit, “Wipe Out.”
