Police are saying a Glendale man threw a gun into a residential street before being pulled over for a traffic stop.

Grigor Tosunyan, 30, was riding in a car driven by 32-year-old Edvin Karapetyan when the vehicle was pulled over in the 1500 block of Dixon Street around 1:48 a.m. on Nov. 20. Karapetyan was not wearing a seat belt and did not have a rear license plate displayed, according to Glendale police.

Additionally, police said the North Hollywood resident was driving on a suspended license. He was searched and was found in possession of Xanax pills and over $300. A search of Tosunyan yielded a white substance resembling methamphetamine.

Karapetyan’s vehicle was then searched and more drugs were found as well as three cell phones, $461 and over 60 rounds of ammunition.

During the stop, authorities said a 24-year-old man on Dixon Street had called 911 after finding a gun in front of his home.

Not knowing if the gun was real or fake, police said the man decided to point it into the air and pull the trigger. When nothing happened he pulled the slide back, which placed a round into the gun’s chamber, squeezed the trigger and fired a shot into the air.

Policed recovered the gun and eventually determined Tosunyan was the owner based on where the firearm was found in relation to the vehicle’s position. He was arrested for possessing a controlled substance while armed with a handgun.

Meanwhile, Karapetyan was arrested for possessing narcotics with the intent to sell, possessing methamphetamine and driving on a suspended license.
