Science lecture focuses on nutrition

“Nutrition: Science or Fad?” will be presented at Glendale Community College at 12:30 p.m. on March 22 in Cimmarusti Science Center, room 177, as part of the science lecture series.

The speaker will be adjunct associate professor Sona Donayan of the college’s department of culinary arts, hospitality and nutrition.

Her lecture will look at the many aspects of the nutrition discipline by exposing some contemporary trends/fads and controversies, and exploring the educational and career pathways to the profession.

Donayan is a registered dietitian/nutritionist, adult weight-management specialist and has been an adjunct associate professor at Glendale Community College since 2003. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from UCLA and a master’s degree in family consumer sciences/nutrition from California State University, Northridge.

In addition to teaching at Glendale Community College, she is a consultant to geriatric healthcare facilities, where she practices menu development, food-service auditing, staff training and dietary care planning.

Admission is free and open to the public. Additional information may be obtained by calling (818) 240-1000. The college is located at 1500 N. Verdugo Road.

‘Urinetown: The Musical’ opens March 31

“Urinetown: The Musical,” music by Mark Hollman, book by Greg Kotis and lyrics by Hollman and Kotis, will open March 31 in the college auditorium’s Main Stage Theatre.

Directed by Jeanette Farr, the musical will be presented for two weekends with eight performances. Show times will be at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for students and seniors and $10 for children 10 years old and younger.
