Police reportedly seized a loaded, stolen gun from a 23-year-old man during a traffic stop prompted by an expired registration tag Friday.

After stopping the car at Brand Boulevard and Monterey Road just before midnight, the officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, and asked the driver and three passengers to step outside, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

In one passenger’s waistband, the officer found a loaded gun that had been reported stolen from San Bernardino in November, Lightfoot said. The man, reputed gang member Alexis Gonzales of Santa Ana, had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Police also found two containers of marijuana — which Gonzales reportedly claimed ownership of — under the passenger’s seat, Lightfoot said.

Gonzales was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon and is being held in lieu of $110,000 bail.

The driver along with the two other passengers were released at the scene.
