Glendale PTA: Black and White Affair slated for Feb. 6

The 2016 Black and White Affair, a dinner, dance and auction hosted by the Verdugo Woodlands Elementary’s PTA, will be held on Feb. 6 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive, La Cañada Flintridge.

The event will start at 6 p.m. for VIP ticket holders and 6:45 p.m. for general admission. The evening will include live music and a silent auction to support the school’s arts and technology programs.

Tickets are $85 for general admission and $120 for VIP level and must be purchased by Jan. 22. Details can be found at vwpta.com, where tickets can also be purchased.

A free parent workshop about cyberbullying will be presented at 6 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the Library Connection at Adams Square, 1100 E. Chevy Chase Drive.

At the workshop, presented by the Glendale Unified School District’s Student Support Services Department, parents and adult family members will learn that cyberbullying is any harassment that occurs via technology, chat rooms, fake profiles or email messages. Ilin Magran, a Glendale Unified psychologist, will help attendees identify strategies and resources to effectively prevent and respond to cyberbullying.

Wilson Middle School

Wilson Middle School’s PTSA will host a “Coffee with the Principal” event at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 12 in the school’s library. This will be followed by a free parent workshop at 9 a.m. titled “Learn How Your Child Thinks.” An evening version of this free workshop — for both parents and Wilson students — will be presented at 7 p.m. on Jan. 26. The evening workshop will also have break-out sessions for student attendees.

A Wilson PTSA board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 in the school’s library.

Wilson’s drama department will present its winter play at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29.

John Marshall Elementary School

The Marshall PTA will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 21.

Yellow Ribbon Week activities are scheduled from Jan. 19 to 22 to draw awareness about suicide prevention.

R.D. White Elementary School

Yellow Ribbon Week will be held at R.D. White from Jan. 19 to 22 to draw awareness about suicide prevention.

Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School

The next meeting of Woodlanders Are Volunteers for Education, known as WAVE, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. The PTA will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 19.

Appetites are getting ready for the Dads’ Club’s annual pancake breakfast starting at 7 a.m. on Jan. 30.
