Glendale PTA: Parenting workshops to focus on bullying

Free parenting workshops, made possible by Glendale Unified’s Student Support Services, are being held monthly at the Library Connection @ Adams Square, 1100 E. Chevy Chase Drive. They will be led by Ilin Magran, school psychologist and coordinator in the school district’s Healthy Start office

“Positive Parenting and Setting Boundaries” will be held at 6 p.m. tonight. Attendees will learn tips about effective discipline and setting boundaries.

Upcoming topics will be “Bullying” and exploring steps in forming a plan to respond to bullying with your child at 6 p.m. on Dec. 2 and “Cyberbullying” at 6 p.m. on Jan. 13. The cyberbullying workshop will help parents identify strategies and resources to effectively prevent and respond to cyberbullying, which is any harassment that occurs via technology, in chat rooms or through emails or fake profiles.

Glendale High School

This is Spirit Week at Glendale High as the school gears up for its homecoming activities and the “Battle for the Bell.” Dating back to 1930, the Nitros football team takes part in this annual rivalry with Hoover High School to see who gets to take home the “Bell.”

The homecoming football game pageantry will start at 6 p.m. on Friday at Moyse Field. Seven Glendale High School football legends will be recognized prior to the game’s kick-off at 7 p.m. The junior varsity game against Hoover will start at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for general admission; $5 for high school students, children, and senior citizens 62 years old and older. Children ages 6 and under will be admitted for free. One ticket allows entry into both games.

Glendale High or Hoover High ASB cards get a student in for free. Dress warm, wear red and support the Glendale High PTSA through concession purchases.

Applications for Mr. Nitro are due by Nov. 20.

Wilson Middle School

A parent-and-student workshop titled “Using Social Media Responsibly” will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Those who supported the PTSA’s coffee-and-tea fundraiser, called “Grounds for Change,” will receive their deliveries on Nov. 13.

Wilson’s PTSA board meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 in the school library.

The annual toy and book drive, sponsored by the PTSA, will run from Nov. 30 through Dec. 11.

Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School

A school’s PTA board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
